Run for School Board (DD2 / DD4)
You can change thousands of kids’ trajectories—and restore trust in public schools.
School Board is governance: you set priorities, hire/evaluate the superintendent, and make budgets to serve learning – not politics. Done well, it’s steady competence with life-changing results.
What you can change:
- Set measurable goals; demand evidence for programs and spending.
- Hire/evaluate district leadership—the biggest lever you have.
- Approve budgets and policies; track whether outcomes improve.
- Listen to families and educators, including those too busy to show up at microphones.
What you’ll actually do:
- Get third graders reading with an evidence-based literacy plan and real progress reporting.
- Reduce classroom chaos so teachers can teach and students can learn.
- Keep great teachers by fixing the conditions that make them stay.
- Move dollars toward classrooms and basics—not bureaucracy and fads.
- Lower the temperature: protect schools from political theater and focus on outcomes.
What it takes to run:
Time: typically ~5–15 hrs/week in office; peak periods ~15–25 hrs/week; campaign ~6–20 hrs/week.
- Focus: outcomes over outrage.
- Judgment: ask hard questions without grandstanding.
- Integrity: treat public trust like something sacred.
