Bio
Preston is a Summers Corner resident, former small-business owner, and revenue-management professional with a background in economics. Born in Tampa and raised in northern Virginia, he first came to the Charleston area to attend Charleston Southern University and later built a career solving complex planning and resource challenges. After years of working across the South and launching a small business with his wife, Michell, Preston returned to the Lowcountry in 2024 and saw firsthand how rapid development has outpaced Dorchester County’s schools, roads, and public services.
Why he’s running
Preston says it is time for a change. He believes Dorchester County needs someone who is not financially tied to the county to serve as a clear voice of reason, and he says he offers something different because he will not be in a position to profit from the decisions he makes.
What makes District 7 home
When life finally gave Preston and his family the opportunity to choose where they wanted to build their future, they could have chosen anywhere. The Lowcountry had always felt like home to him, and because his wife is a Goose Creek native, the region rose naturally to the top of their list. After spending a great deal of time deciding where they wanted to put down roots, Summers Corner checked many of the right boxes. He believes both District 7 and the broader community have enormous potential, but that the county’s current path is preventing that potential from being fully realized.

Concurrency first. No major development should move forward unless there is a real, funded plan for schools, roads, traffic patterns, water, sewer, and emergency services to keep up at the same time.
Developers pay their fair share. Large projects should help cover the infrastructure and public resource costs they create instead of shifting that burden onto current residents.
Clear standards, not loopholes. Dorchester County should adopt measurable service standards for classrooms, traffic flow, utilities, parks, and public safety before approving major developments.
Real transparency. Residents deserve open information, public-facing plans, and honest explanations of county decisions instead of opaque, developer-driven government.
Safe, connected communities. Preston supports sidewalks, safe crossings, parks, and neighborhood connections that will make District 7 a better place to live, gather, and move around.

Concurrency is simple: Dorchester County should not approve new homes unless there is already a clear plan for the schools, roads, traffic, water, sewer, and emergency services those homes will require.
Preston’s plan says growth must be matched by infrastructure and resources up front. If those pieces are not in place, the project should wait or the developer should help fund what is needed.
